“Sport in Motion - what is important is invisible to the eye” is the theme of the international photography competition supported by the Dicastery for Culture and Education as part of the Jubilee. The competition includes five categories: Sport and Hope, Sport and Family, Sport and Ecology, Sport and Disabilities, and Sport and Politics.
By April 30, any young person under 25 who wishes to participate can submit photographs - unedited using artificial intelligence and taken after 2020 - to the email address: sportinmotion@dce.va. Participation is free and open to everyone, including non-professional photographers.
Further information and the competition's foundation can be found on the website of the Dicastery for Culture and Education. Winners will meet with the Holy Father, visit the Vatican Museums, and their photographs will be published by Vatican media.
“The goal of the competition is to connect three words that do not always come close together as they should: sport-youth-art,” explained Cardinal José Tolentino Mendonça, Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education. The competition is an offer for young people to “become creators of art, not just its consumers,” and “to narrate reality through their eyes, to see what adults are not always able to see, to show what is essential, which is invisible to the eye (The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).”
Gioavani Zenoni, who will be part of the jury for the Jubilee competition, is a young sports fan and photographer who spends most of his time behind the camera lens. Some of his shots have been selected as sports photographs of the year in the categories “Cycling” in 2022, “Water Sports” in 2023, and in 2024 he received two special recognitions in the “Winter Sports” category. He has been ranked among the top 10 “Young Reporters under 30” by the International Sports Press Association and received the “Promising Young Man” award from the National Union of Sports Veterans. He collaborates with various renowned agencies and brands, and his photographs have been published in major national and international newspapers and magazines.
